Biz Gear - Tot Slim Stapler Review

Small stapler suitable for traveling needs

The Tot Slim Stapler is a good addition for your business travel kit. Not perfect but decent.

The Tot Slim Swingline is a small stapler that takes standard size staples. In other words, not those mini-staples that you can't find to buy anywhere and won't hold two papers worth a damn anyway, but real manly staples.

Praise for the Tot Stapler...

  • The stapler comes in several colors like gray, blue and lime green.
  • It has a little carabiner clip for fastening to your duffle bag D-hook, backpack, carry-on bag or keychain.
  • The staples hold up to 12 papers together. You can force a few more in there, though.
  • There's a little hook on the end that works as a staple remover too. I like that feature and the multi-use angle.
  • The thing also really folds up small - you could put it in your back jeans pocket if you wanted.
  • I bought mine at Office Depot for under five dollars, and it came with a box of staples to boot.
  • And it's made by Swingline...which is, for fans of cult movie Office Space, the stapler maker for hipster cubicle dwellers.

And now for the cons...

This stapler is hard to actually use. You almost have to retrain yourself how to use a stapler every time you take it out. First, you open the "lips" (they travel closed). Then you fiddle with the Staple Driver Button. Then you try to make a staple and realize you have to fiddle with the Staple Driver Button again. I usually get it right on the second or third pass.

It's still worth having this tool along, because when you need a staple, you need a staple and not a paper clip...or worse, that silly little fold-over that just says "cheap, unprepared loser".
